Getafe vs Barcelona Last home win to Los Cules was September 2011
Ronald Koeman is determined for his Barcelona team to returning to winning ways away to Getafe on Saturday, and the club can be encouraged by the fact they haven’t suffered defeat at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez for nine years.
A draw with Sevilla just prior to the international break shone a light on some of the players which the Dutch coach continues to face at Barcelona, problems which were hidden by the team’s bright start to the domestic campaign.
With the Champions League about to start, the former Feyenoord coach would be forgiven for resting players, yet he has confirmed he won’t be dropping big names for the trip to Getafe.
Getafe have been the feel-good story of LaLiga Santander for the past two seasons, only narrowly missing Champions League qualification on both occasions due to a late season collapse.
However, they have not excelled when it comes to results against the big teams and we have to go back to September 2011 to find their last home triumph against the Blaugrana.
Luis Garcia led his team into that encounter with Pablo Sarabia running the team from a creative standpoint, yet it was Juan Valera who nodded home from an aerial cross to hand Barcelona a rare defeat on that date.
It was the last time Getafe managed to win against any of the three behemoth teams in Spain, and since then there have been a grand total of 12 Barcelona victories in the 15 fixtures they’ve played up to Saturday’s date.
Getafe would consider this a prime moment to end such an unwanted streak, especially seeing as they have yet to concede a goal at home this season, never mind taste defeat.
